Flash Live Video (FLV) is, as the name suggests, a type of Flash video. It is a popular format that delivers high-quality, well-synchronized multimedia content, primarily over the Internet. FLV uses the open standard ISO/IEC 14496-12:2008, also known as the ISO base media file format, which offers the advantage of flexibility and independence.

 

How to open an FLV file?

By default, FLV opens in Adobe products, namely Animate Creative Cloud (Animate CC) and Flash. It opens best in Adobe Flash version 7 and above. FLV does not support chapters or subtitles, but it does support metadata tags.

 

Since FLV is based on an open standard, it can open in many non-Adobe products. Other programs in which FLV can open include VLC media player, Zoom Player, RealNetworks RealPlayer Cloud, Eltima Elmedia Player, and others.

Apple developed Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) to store high-quality, digital-audio (waveform) data. Many professionals use it, particularly users of Apple platforms. It is lossless, which means there is no loss of quality or data from the original, but this also means that AIFF files take up more space. AIFF can locate loop point data and musical notes, which is useful for musicians.

 

How to open an AIFF file?

By default, AIFF opens in Windows Media Player or iTunes, depending on the operating system. Other programs that open AIFF include VLC media player, Audacity, Winamp, and Elmedia Player.

 

Please note that if using an Android or non-Apple device, you will need to convert the AIFF file—likely to a MP3 file—in order to open it. Mobile Apple products open AIFF files without file conversion.
